In 1811 James Dixon took on a partner in the firm and it became Dixon & Smith. In 1822 the company moved to Cornish Place and became Dixon & Son, becoming Dixon & Sons in 1835. In 1879 the famous trumpet and banner mark was granted. In the 1920s the firm also began to produce cutlery under the Staybrite and Firth names.
